So I'm on board with most of the casting but I'm not sure about Thomas Dekker. I'm not familiar with his work (if he has any). Anyone have input? 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

He was last seen last season as Claire's friend Zach on HEROES. He's wonderfully cast in the part. He plays the outsider really well and also bears a remarkable resemblance to Michael Biehn...I don't know if that was intentional or not but it was a GREAT casting move on the show's part. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. He's quite enjoyable in Heroes. Im addicted to this NBC show and saw him there too. Do you find this valuable?

I agree w/ others. Dekker did well with his small part on Heroes, and there were many people hoping that they would pull him back into the story somehow. I liked his character because he was, as they say, sexually ambiguous. When Claire asked him if he was into her, he said something along the lines of "that's not possible". He pulled that off well.

I just watched T2, and at the end of it John is doing just great, so it's somewhat mysterious how he became a moody whiny wimp in the pilot, but that's the script, not the actor. I think they've set the story up this way because the show is going to partly be a coming-of-age story about John, so they needed him to come from some place interesting. If he started out well adjusted, self-confident and outgoing there wouldn't be much of a story to tell.

Another example of Hollywood screw-ups!! I like the premise of the show. I don't like 2 things; first- the fact that this is being used as a filler to replace 24, which is being postponed.
second- casting Thomas Dekker as John. According to Fox's descrip., John's age in the show is 15. Yet, they cast a 20 yr old?????
I know there's never been a requirement for the actor to be age specific to the role. 21 Jump Street pretty much cemented that fact. However, it's rediculous to me to cast someone who clearly looks older than the character's supposed to be. Why couldn't the cast someone like Haley-Joel Osment, who's clearly within that age group? I also agree with the anti- girly/man comment. John was never before shown to have that type of mentality or attitude.
Lastly, I hate the writers, who went way overboard, with the Summer role. To me, this totally invalidates T-3, regardless of what plot they follow. The whole premise of the franchise was man vs machines. T-3 was a throw-back to this, only because future John had a ONE TIME shot to send back a protector. I will not watch this show, and can only hope it gets cancelled quickly, and 24 will return to it's rightly place as Fox's premiere show.

coming of age? ROFL yes, that's the plot,, but not one that works, when you cast an actor who's 5 years beyond the age of puberty!! I think Dekkar's a decent actor, and maybe he can do a fine job here. But, the fact remains that any sensible viewer will never get behind his role. It's the same as if they'd actually written Linda Hamilton as Sarah. It can't/doesn't work. They should've gotten an true adolescent for this role.

new Sarah looks hot and tough...
New John looks kind of a like a girly boy or what?? The kid is 5-10 and about 120 pounds and is supposed to be the leader of the revolt. He looks kind of wimpy.

Casting an actor that's older than his/her character a lot more than OK, it's standard practice. There have been entire shows about high school don't have have a single kid that hasn't already graduated.

You can push it too far. The character of Louis on Smallville is played by Erica Durance. Lois is supposed to be around 21, yet Erica Durance is 30! And not a miraculously young looking 30 either. I don't know what they were thinking there.

John connor is supposed to be Rough and tough not some Girly , pretty boy ooking surfer wimp. Looks like the machines are going to win the war.
Sarah connor could break John in half.
Atleast Sarah provides great beauty and toughness.

He's supposed to become a great leader. The pilot ep - the one released early on Yahoo - shows he's got some emotional growth left to get there.

And his mom is a strong woman, emotionally speaking.
