And I still need to make people watch the series, who can't read BDs. When will it be possible to order the UK versions ? Will they have subtitles (I personally don't need them, but other people would) Do you find this valuable? |

May 14 2008, 3:47 PM EDT I just checked the price of blu-ray players,and at least in my neck of the woods, the price has jumped to $399 USD for the cheapest model. I limited my search to Best Buy and Circuit City. I knew this would happen. As soon as HD-DVD bit the dust, I predicted that Blu-ray prices wouid jump, and they won't come down until this Xmas. Do you find this valuable? |

But until that.. we will have to wait."Another reason to go Blu (if you can): Warner Brothers discs are usually region free. You could always import the U.S. version. That's what a lot of people do. I've imported some Blu-ray stuff from Germany and the UK if they happen to be region free and are either of superior quality (Flags of Our Fathers had a 24 bit PCM track in some overseas areas and the Paramount release in the States was inferior audio-wise) or not available here (like Almost Famous: The Director's Cut with Dolby TrueHD audio). If you want a Blu-ray player RIGHT NOW then the PS3 has the most bang vs. buck and the load and response times are super fast and it is currently the only FULL Profile 2.0 player (meaning it is picture-in-picture, trick play, and web-content enabled). If you can wait a few weeks then there are more choices coming with similar features (though I can't speak to the players' speed). But yes, prices are still high for some people since its still a new format. After experiencing the superior video and audio quality of Blu-ray, I thought it was worth the investment and my PS3, which I've had since the beginning of the console, has paid for itself with the many firmware updates times over (I've only had to buy one player while others have gone through multiple upgrades). You do want a good 1080p set to get the most out of the format, and if it accepts 1080p/24 and displays it at direct refresh rate multiples like 48 Hz or 96 Hz or 120 Hz without further processing then it will look even better. Some new 120 Hz sets, unfortunately, interpolate frames and add on other "features" rather than do a direct multiple of 24 Hz and movies will look like they were shot with video cameras... it looks ODD). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

They're a general channel which main audience is "house-wives less than 50 years old". Out of the american sci-fi-shows they have broadcasted, only LOST is successful. They stopped "Angel" at Season 3, and "Heroes" Season 1 has been a massive fail. We expect the channel to delay Heroes' Season 2 from 8:50 pm to 10:30 pm. But shows like CSI/Law & Order/Ugly Betty, and reality shows gather much more audience. They aired Xena too, a long time ago, and that's all for sci-fi. I think that TF1 bought Terminator SCC just so its main competitor M6 couldn't. M6, as general "house-wives less than 50 years old" channel, is much more SF/action/fantasy-friendly : They've been successful with : "Buffy", "Alias", "Battlestar Galactica" (mini-series only, SCI-FI and NRJ 12 own the rights of the Series), "Veronica Mars", "Stargate SG-1/Atlantis", "Prison Break", "X-Files", "Californication", "Nip/Tuck", "The 4400", "Dead Zone", "Desperate Housewives", "Roswell", "Smallville", "Kyle XY", "Bones", "The Unit" "Sliders", "Charmed", "Tru Calling", "Dark Angel" and so on, for many years. One could have expected to see Terminator SCC on M6 (I wished), but if TF1 is gonna air it (and they've still not said when, I wonder if they even care), I predict fail. Do you find this valuable? |
