The Engineer_Who is he?

My theory on the Engineer, is that he probably had more jobs than just the bank job. He could have got a job at a nuclear powerplant, because where else could he get access to a low radioactive isotope? Nuke powerplants probably have clean room enviroments, hazmat suits, and Geiger counters. He also could have got a job at a local hardware store which might explain where he got the parts and components for the rifle. He might have got a job at a government facility which had advanced(at the time) computer equipment to use in building of the TDE (Time Displacement Equipment). And he could have built another set of Isotope-fueled rifles and TDE in a different place Cameron hasn't told John and Sarah about. He could have built a makeshift vat for repairing damaged skin for terminators, this room would probably contain baby food (which helps speed up the skin repair process) and medical supplies for hiding the damaged skin that hasn't been repaired yet. He might have store parts he found and at least six bars of coltan, and a few unprogrammed CPUs for Cameron to use to build another terminator to protect John.Cameron probably wants to even the odds because Skynet sent back so many terminators back through time, so two terminators would be better than one to protect John.So thats my theory on the Engineer. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. That was the worst plot device in the entire series. I still don't get that whole time machine part. So whenever I watch the pilot, I just try not to think and just focus on the action and Summer Glau's cute voice... 0  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

That would be a good subplot, because personally they didn't seem to explain alot about him in the one episode he was mentioned. It was sort of like Cameron purposely didn't explain much about who he OR she was.

Why would he be important at this point of the series? Do you find this valuable?

Maybe he or she left more devices, like "special" guns and repair material for terminators. And it could be a major character in the plot now. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Hmm yes, that is a good point you did bring up. Since the engineer left all that equipment in that bank he/she may have a more significant role later providing spare parts to repair Cameron, more weapons and possibly have one more reprogrammed cyborg on standby in storage somewhere if the worst should happen to Cameron, (this new cyborg will be another Cameron of course) more advanced and stronger hopefully. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. "The Engineer" could be a significant background story arc.

Similar to Harvey Kietel's "cleaner" role in "Pulp Fiction". Only called upon to "clean" things up, or "fix 'em". They use this technique in the TV show "Moonlight".

I like this idea.

The time machine vault would only open with a retina scan of Cameron's eyes. This would require complete data set - not to mention detailed knowledge of all the specs for the machine etc.... Since it is not possible for non organic material to be bought back through a time portal - How do you get all that data back in time and in a format accessible to the Engineer? The obvious answer is that the Engineer had a computer in their Brain or their Brain was a computer. Taking this line of thought and combing it with the Retina Scans I would suggest that the Engineer is Cameron herself. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

But there really was no way around it. So I don't mind it.

Cameron, being revealed as the Engineer would be a great twist, and subplot. Because that could explain why she is the most human terminator ever. She already lived with humans at a earlier date.

Good catch, mq.mikael, Cameron did seem purposely vague about the unnamed engineer (of course, she's vague about a lot of things). Balderdash also had a good point about the engineer having access to Cam's retinal prints. Hadn't thought about that one.

Hmmm, will this turn out to be a significant plot arc or just a throwaway character needed to jump-start the series to 2007? Looks like we have to wait for season 2.

Cameron would be an interesting suspect. She is a very, very important "person" in the resistance for John... enough to give her eye pattern access to sensitive equipment and areas of the bunker like the time portal. I bet no other machine (if she isn't revealed to be a hybrid of some kind) has been given this power. I'm sure Arnold never had it.

And things just got a little more interesting. In my best evil Mr. Burns voice: Excellent!!

The Engineer doesn't have to be a machine. He could be a human with an eidetic memory who simply memorized the plans and Cameron's retina. In fact, it might be safer for the Resistance to have humans memorize classified information, because presumably it would be more difficult for terminators to extract human memories.

If Cameron isn't the Engineer, maybe the Engineer will help to repair Cameron.

wouldn't it be a TWIST if sarkissian is the engineer & turned rouge? :P
or WHAT IF the engineer is now responsible for the "creation" of some technology that was later used to develope skynet????

I don't think Sarkissian will be the engineer. Common, don't tell me he's helping John but trying to blow up Cameron who's protecting him. But anyways it'll be interesting to know who this engineer is. Do you find this valuable?

To throw in another random theory:

I think that the engineer was another terminator (not Cameron), but one that, unlike Arnie, could self-terminate after his mission was done.

Maybe the engineer is still alive and living in the states, but it's anyones guess if it's a terminator or a human. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
