Maybe Fox should reconsider
Apr 14 2008, 11:00 AM EDT
I realize that no "final" verdict on the future of TSCC has been determined, but there are circumstances that FOX might want to consider before cutting TSCC loose. Les Moonvies at CBS is embroiled in several issues, the Couric will she won't she debacle, and substantial losses in profits at CBS, and the decline in the 18 to 49 viewership demographic. Obviously, with recession and increased gas prices, the possibility of more 18 to 49 year olds deciding to stay home in the evening would seem like an opportunity. Those in this demographic who are fleeing CBS (Moonvies is quoted as saying that only "one" of the new programs on CBS last season will be renewed, a sitcom that I found unwatchable) will be looking to other networks to fill the evening hours. Not surprisingly, CBS canceled one of the best sci-fi/action/drama series "Jericho", after fans demanded it be given another season. Anyway, there is a substantial market for the TSCC series, one that may increase given the present economic conditions that would tend toward increased viewership. The action and great production values of the series, the "hot" babes, and the contemporary themes of the series will attract the 18 to 49 demographic that advertisers seem to favor. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

And besides all the basic stuff that attracts that audience... the show is actually very good too!

Whether that plays into any decision making at Fox... who knows?

wow blown away by the numbers that were posted. They show a very neg trend in viewership. It also seems that this show is more expensive to produce, given the effects etc. when compared to a reality show - must have much higher profit margins given the low up front cost . This gives the show a large hill to climb using the typical models for shows. This show will have to start selling terminators, dvd, games t-shirts, etc. They may consider distribution on the internet for a price - not just itunes - like showing outtakes etc. Even though I love the show, I wonder about its viability - does Fox have its fingers in T4? if it does - season 2 is a no brainer - if not - it will be a close call 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Geez talk about heart stopping. I read the title to this thread and thought we had gotten bad news or something and this was a plea to Fox to reconsider. Do you find this valuable?

It seems like Fox does a bad job in promoting their shows. Do you find this valuable?

Seriously, I though that the networks "getting into cable" was to broaden their market reach, and make them less dependent on "demographic models" and advertising revenue (remember when cable networks didn't have advertising?). The Sci-Fi channel has (arguably) suffered under control of the Peacock network, yet occassionally; the Sci-Fi channel manages to produce a good movie, mini-series, and the occassional series. Battlestar Galactica must cost a pretty penny to produce. I doubt TSCC costs as much as BSG, and I'm certain the payroll isn't near as high. Do you find this valuable?
