What do People think of Bear McCreary's music in the T:SCC series?
Apr 7 2008, 9:21 PM EDT Hey everyone it Krazy! I just wanted to get peoples opinion to Bear McCreary's music in the series. Do you like it? What could be done to make it better? Do you think Bear McCreary was a good choice or do you think their could be a better composer? Have you heard of his music in Battlestar Galactica? Would you like to see a soundtrack in the future? Like maybe this year! What do you think of Bear's music compared to Battlestar Galactica or the Original Terminator Movies Soundtracks? Personnally I think his music is superb. But that is just me what do you FAN think? Apr 7 2008, 10:32 PM EDT I think Bear is a fantastic composer and musician. Honestly I didn't realize he was the composer when I first started watching the series. I like what I've heard from his work in BSG, but the T:SCC stuff is really different. I was probably expecting all the heavy drum overtones like in BSG. I'm still waiting for news on the T:SCC CD, Bear mentioned that there should be one out later this year in his blog. I'm gonna preorder that sucker for overnight delivery as soon as I find out. Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 7 2008, 11:59 PM EDT I still think they are making a big mistake by not doing the full T2, Brad Fiedel theme for the opening and front credit roll. THAT theme really defines the whole universe and will grab the audience from the beginning. Like the Indiana Jones theme or Jaws theme, the Terminator theme music is iconic. By only doing a couple beats at the opening, people who may not have watched the movies for a while, might not make the connection. I kinda think I hear some overtones and similarties to the original though in the current themes. I do think it would have been cool if they had used the original theme for the pilot, the second episode, and the finale. Do you find this valuable? |

I actually read in his blog that he did score a track that plays that original theme more promitely. Maybe we will hear it in the soundtrack. Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 9 2008, 8:15 PM EDT I will agree that Bear has done a wonderful job keeping the vibe of Brad's original music. I just think that he's going to have to really dig deep and pull out some nifty new stuff if this show is going to continue on for more seasons. While Brad Fiedel's overall electronic score and character motifs are very good, it's not something that lends itself to four or more years of programming. It would get old after a while (except for the original theme and beat that they need to pump up at the show's beginning to pull in the audience). That's why I loved when Josh added the wonderful, iconic Johnny Cash song to the last episode and made the sequences surrounding it more poetic. It really helped change the tone and made it feel "different" and indie film-like while not getting in the way of the "feel" of the show at all. I love your work, Bear, with the Fiedel material, but it needs some augmentation every so often to spice things up (like the ballet music). Besides throwing in some great tunes along the way! =) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Because in his blog he states that he used all real instreaments that him and his orquestra/team recorded. Yep, that's real violins and drums being played.
