Synopsis

More than 10 years after 'Terminator 2', John Connor now exists only as a drifter - living 'off the grid', so no more Terminators from the future can hunt him down. Unfortunately, SkyNet does send another terminator back - and this one is called the T-X, even more powerful & advanced than the dreaded T-1000. However, another CSM-101 Terminator is also sent back to protect John against the T-X. Now, Skynet is patiently assuming control of civilian computer systems, under the guise of a computer virus. John has also met his future wife, Kate Brewster, whose father - a U.S. Air Force General - is in charge of the military computer systems & is leery of up linking SkyNet. However, when the SkyNet virus infects the U.S military computers & leaves the country open to attack, the machines begin their horrific takeover. Soon a nuclear war will result - and the war against the machines will begin. Can the outdated CSM-101 Terminator eliminate the highly advanced T-X - or will a darker future await man following the nuclear attack? (© Derek O'Cain, IMDB.com)

Trivia

  • Former WWE superstar Chyna was an original candidate to play T-X.
  • The man who yells at John when his car is hit is Billy Lucas, Arnold's personal stuntman. Lucas has stunted for many of Arnold's movies including Terminator 2.
  • In the scene where John turns on the magnetic field, the equipment he uses to turn up the power is the throttle of the Saitek X45 with a Cyberdyne plate over the base.
  • Dr. Silberman, the psychiatrist from the first two movies, makes a cameo appearance in "The Rise of the Machines" and makes some comments about seeing "crazy stuff" when in a hostage situation. This is an homage to an un-filmed scene from "Judgement Day" (1991) which featured Dr. Silberman being taken away in a straight-jacket after the T-1000 attack at the hospital.
  • When the Terminator reboots himself in the hangar in order to get rid of the influence of the T-X, the scrolling text includes "Quicktime Player - Access" and "MP3.com - No Access."
  • The movie didn't have enough money to shoot the scene where the Terminator was being smashed through the building. So Arnold Schwarzeneggar paid for it with his own money. The total was $1 or 2 million. He said that was a scene he was looking forward to and he really wanted it in the film.
  • In the movie, Kate's fiance Scott is referred to as "Scott Mason", but in the credits, he is listed as "Scott Petersen", they changed the dialogue of his name in light of Scott Peterson, the man accused of killing his wife and unborn son in California.
  • When Catherine tells the Terminator where John Conner was after the Terminator promises to let her go, the Terminator reneges on his promise and when she protests, he says "I lied." This is a reference to another Schwarzenegger film "Commando" (1985) where Col. John Matrix says the same line to Sully after he reneges on his promise.
  • Originally, Sophia Bush was cast as Kate Brewster. After filming for a few days, director Jonathan Mostow let her go and cast Claire Danes instead because he felt that Bush looked too young for the part.
  • The scene where the chase between the 2 terminators with the large crane vehicle was shot twice. The directors didn't like the way the crane crashed and they bought another crane and re-shot the scene at an additional cost of over $1,000,000.
