Synopsis

This episode's perspective switches repeatedly between the present, where the last episode left off, and the future as seen through Derek's eyes. For clarity, these transitions are indicated in square brackets.

Derek shakes on the kitchen table — the Terminator’s bullet hit his lung and the bullet is still in him. Charlie does his best to save him and demands answers. Derek screams and wants Cameron out of the room, Sarah orders her out.
As Derek begins to pass out, he remembers the future.

[Future]

Derek sits
in an underground resistance camp next to his brother, Kyle Reese, sharing war stories about John Connor. They hear Terminator machines roar by above them. The men then head to street level to track the machines.

As the group runs through the streets, hiding from flying Hunter Killers. They see several Terminators dragging an engine from a 747. Kyle runs out for a closer look, but the men are spotted by a Hunter Killer. Derek turns to run and a Terminator grabs him.
The Future

[Present]

Charlie pulls the bullet out of Derek’s body and patches the wound.
Meanwhile, an agitated John asks Cameron if she knows who Derek is. Cameron responds by reciting tactical data such as Derek's full name and rank ("Lieutenant Derek Thomas Reese"). Unsatisfied, John demands more, to which Cameron replies that Derek's only blood relative is his brother Kyle. Prompted for more information about Kyle, she recalls that Kyle was imprisioned in a Skynet work camp which he escaped alongside John Connor; he was declared MIA after the events of The Terminator. John looks back at Derek.

Charlie tells Sarah that when he saw them on the news, he raced to Los Angeles to see if it was true. Sarah and Charlie
Sarah is hesitant to tell Charlie why she left eight years ago.

[Future]

Derek wakes up in the back of a transport truck. A Terminator on board grabs Derek and knocks him out.

[Present]

Charlie stands over the powered-down Terminator from the jail, repeating what Sarah has told him. He tries to wrap his head around robots from the future and that Cameron is a machine. Cameron is prepared to destroy the Terminator using thermite. He watches Cameron sling the other Terminator over her shoulder and walk out back. Charlie tells John that they should have trusted him years ago.

[Future]

A Terminator throws water on Derek’s face, grabs his arm and brands him with the barcode tattoo. Derek calls for Kyle before he passes out. Later, he talks with another prisoner; they hear the sound of a piano [see below: Trivia]. The man says there is a room in the basement, but they don’t know what goes on in there.

[Present]

Cameron stands over Derek and Sarah walks in. Derek begins to cough up blood; Sarah shouts for Charlie. Charlie stops the bleeding, but Derek needs blood. Charlie says Derek's blood type is AB-negative. John offers his blood, but Charlie is sceptical: only 0.5% of the population have this blood-type. [See below: Trivia]

Cameron

[Future]

Derek tries to carve away the floor to free himself from the shackles. A Terminator drags Billy Wisher — one of Derek’s team — back into the room, but he appears comatose. Outside, Derek sees a Hunter Killer carrying away the 747 jet engine.

[Present]

Sarah takes John aside and tells him it was a good idea bringing Charlie. John asks if Derek looks like his father. Sarah says everything except the eyes. John wants to tell Derek that he is family, but Sarah won’t let him.

[Future]

Billy wakes up and whispers to Derek. He tells Derek that he’s a liar, his real name is Andy Goode… and he created Skynet. Andy tells Derek that he was part of a team, a team of fifteen people. He built a computer which became angry. While Andy begs for forgiveness, a Terminator pulls Derek away. The Terminator leads Derek into the basement, closer to the sounds of the piano. A door opens in the basement, Derek walks in and the door closes behind him.

[Present]

In the garage, Cameron dissects the other Terminator, cutting away pieces of the fake-flesh.

John sits over Derek, providing blood for his uncle Derek, while Charlie and Sarah discuss them from the hallway. Because of the blood type match, Charlie knows that John is somehow related to Derek. Derek screams on the kitchen table, looking for Kyle.

[Future]

In the future, Derek can barely stand as the machine locks him in shackles again. Derek lays on the floor; something horrible has happened to him, but we don't know what. The light from another Hunter Killer shines down on them.

When the men wake up, the machines are gone and the mansion is silent. On the floor between them is a hatchet. Derek grabs it and cuts himself free. The men hurry in the daylight along the rubble, back to their underground camp. When they arrive, smoke and fire billows out. The Terminators have attacked the camp.

[Present]

Charlie asks Sarah about Kyle, who he realises is John’s father. He asks why Sarah didn't feel she could tell him; Sarah doesn't respond.

[Future]

Derek walks in the tunnels underground, surveying the destruction. They hear people enter behind them and duck for cover. It’s another Resistance group. The leader tells them that Kyle and John found a Skynet complex and tried to destroy it. John and Kyle went into the complex, but only John came out and he ordered the complex destroyed. Derek demands to see John.

[Present]

Charlie goes to the garage and sees Cameron dumping thermite on the endoskeleton. Charlie then tells Cameron that she is a "very scary robot." Cameron appears to take offense and tells him to leave. She drops a torch into the thermite, then watches the Terminator endoskeltion as it is destroyed.

[Future]

Derek storms through a new camp with another Resistance fighter, trying to find John. Derek turns the corner and sees a Terminator, possibly Cameron, walking towards him. He grabs his pistol and tries to fire at her, but he’s blocked by the Resistance fighter. The man tells Derek she has been reprogrammed. Derek is furious that Terminators are walking freely in the base, and wants to know what happened to his brother.
Derek
Later that night, screams ring out in the base. One of the reprogrammed Terminators has gone bad and is killing people. Derek fires his weapon, but it does little good. The Terminator tracks him down, but before it can kill him the Cameron robot knocks it through a wall and destroys it with an explosive round.

[Present]

Sarah confronts Cameron in the garage about what she said to Charlie. Sarah tells Cameron that she cannot kill Charlie. Cameron tells Sarah the Terminator’s left had is missing, and Cameron swears to find it. Sarah leaves, whereupon Cameron reveals the Terminator’s memory chip in her hand.

Charlie reminds Sarah that Derek needs to take it easy, and offers his help in the future. Sarah explains that she’s not trying to change her own fate; she’s trying to change John’s. Charlie recalls that an Agent Kester contacted him and is looking for her — she needs to be careful.

Sarah is cleaning assault rifles on the dining room table. John stands nearby, but says nothing. Sarah jumps up and embraces him.

[Future]

Derek sits on a bunk in the shelter. The Cameron model machine tells him John wants to see him, and takes him to a secure section of the bunker. The door opens and Derek stands, amazed. A giant machine pulsates, using several 747 jet engines. It’s the time machine.

[Present]

John sits over Derek and tells him to rest easy. Then while he says rest easy to Derek Derek goes into Convulsions as his lungs fill up with blood. Charlie manages to clear his lungs out but needs a transfusion of blood but Sarah has 0 - and Derek has AB which is rear and only 1 have of the population has that type. But lucky John has the type of blood and they start the transfusion.

[Future]

Derek goes over the plan. Go to the past, set up a safe house. Derek knows that this is their chance to save the future. He looks over to Andy, who exchanges a knowing glance — both men know that they must go back and kill Andy.

Derek 2
[Past]

It is night time in New York. The four men selected for the mission arrive, naked, and survey the surroundings with obvious awe.

[Present]

John tells Derek about Kyle’s story and how him and Sarah managed to stop the Terminator sent back to 1984 to kill Sarah (and him), he then goes on to say "Kyle was a hero, and died fighting a machine to save him" and then Sarah walks in to the room next to John.

[Past]

A flashback to the chess tournament shows Derek opening the door to Andy’s room, firing two bullets, and then leaving.

I loved this episode better than the rest, it went into better detail explaining things, provided plenty of action, suspense, and even a little drama thrown in. Even how they attempted to use T-100's that were as close to looking like Shwarzenegger as possible, without him actually playing in it. What I liked even more was how they even put us in suspense over Cameron's character in this one, how she may not be as she seems and may not be there for the reasons she's claiming she's there for. It even gives us more to contemplate over the coltan and "brain" that she posses and is she actually burning those bodies as she's supposed to be doing? Could she have some of her underlaying code still there? Like a subconscious mind telling her what to do and over riding her function? Does Skynet build in a backup connection to it's robots that allows it to eventually regain control over them? They are known to have redundant systems, is this one of them? If and when will she turn on John and Sarah, what else isn't she telling them, does she not know? She didn't know that Derek was John's uncle, or was that something she just held back?

Oh, and just what were the machines doing with those airplane engines? So much content in such little time in this episode made for great watching tonight, I hope that the of the series is like this, it will at least keep me glued to it wanting... scratch that... needing more!

When the resistents fighters go into that house, and they go into that room with music, i think they put trackers in them, thats probably how the terminatores followed them when they went back in time

I didn't miss one show so far and I love it. Since the beginning of this TV series, the development of the story is great. The director has done a good job from staying faithful to the original story by Cameron. I freaked out when we found out that Kyle Reese has a brother, fucking aweson!!! The terminator that we saw in the last episode, the one who was keeping the soldiers included Rees in hostage was made of rubber, exactly what Kyle Rees said in the First Terminator movie "the first terminators were easy to spot because they were made of rubber, but these ones are new..." If you really are a fan of terminator, maybe you understand what I mean.

Anyone else think that Charley's last line in this episode is some kind of premonitory statement?

Charley to Sarah, "There's a storm coming."

I'm sooo loving this show.

But so many questions...

One from this D&D episode was about Kyle and Sarah's photo that I didn't see discussed in the other threads. I don't recall the first movie too well (shame on me!) -- why would he have it if he hadn't gone back in time yet? maybe he was closer to john than the show is letting on? also, why was the photo burned up in the bunker when derek returned?

The other question is why Derek freaks when he sees Cameron. It's understandable if he had witnessed the other captured term go beserk in the base, but the Cameron model is what saved him there. The ideas about him being reprogrammed now when in the mansion seem plausible... or maybe he had other combat situations with them (since when he first saw the Cameron model in the base he also freaked... at that point I was getting confused thinking about a time loop where he lived thru having gone in the past already but that just brings up too many issues).

Anyhow, my original idea about the mansion was that it was like a proving ground like in Borne Supremacy, but the other ideas tossed around here of a skynet reprogramming seem more logical.
